Hello everyone
ReplyDeleteThe link was really great it has information for many explorers and the things they have done.
My favourite one is Yuri Gagarin, a cosmonaut,he was the first human that went in space with a spacecraft.
The second one is the man who walked on moon for the first time Neil Armstrong.
HI people :)
ReplyDeleteI found this link very intresting and full of curiosity.
here comes sth very interesting that u all should read ! What about Christopher Columbus ?? Ch. COLUMBUS (1451-1506) was an Italian explorer who sailed across the Atlantic Ocean in 1492, hoping to find a route to India (in order to trade for spices). He made a total of four trips to the Caribbean and South America during the years 1492-1504, sailing for King Ferdinand II and Queen Isabella of Spain. On his first trip, Columbus led an expedition with three ships, the NiƱa, the Pinta, and the Santa Maria.

ReplyDeleteHi everybody!
ReplyDeleteI read the information about some explorers and the most interesting ones were about Sylvia Earle that is an undersea explorer, marine biologist and author. I find her job really interesting and tiring.
I read about Leif Ericsson called the Lucky. He was a Viking explorer that was probably the first European to sail to North America.
The information posted in that link was really interesting.
Hello everybody!
ReplyDeleteThe link was really interesting. It has information for many explorers and the things they have done.I read the information about some explorers and the most interesting ones were about Robert Ballard.Robert Duane Ballard (June 30, 1942 - ) is an American undersea explorer, marine scientist, and US Naval officer who has been on over 65 underwater expeditions in submarines and deep diving submersibles. He found the Titanic and many other wrecks.
For any information i recomond you to go to this link...http://www.enchantedlearning.com/explorers/....you will not be disappointed...Andi Celo
Hey people!!! :D :)
ReplyDeleteI just found the page really awesome!! It had all this cool stuff and lots of information about explorers. I read it and thought it was really nice. Though there were too many explorers that had done really great explorations, my two favorite ones are: VALENTINA TERESHKOVA and VASCO DA GAMA.
Valentina Tereshkova was a Soviet cosmonaut and the first woman in space. Valentina Tereshkova was given the title "Hero of the Soviet Union," and was honored with the United Nations Gold Medal of Peace. GO WOMEN!!!! :D :)
Vasco Da Gama was a Portuguese explorer who discovered an ocean route from Portugal to the East. Many people thought that this was impossible to do because it was assumed that the Indian Ocean was not connected to any other seas. BUT HE PROVED THEM WRONG!!!!
That's all! But you should absolutely read it too! It's really interesting!

ReplyDeleteHello everybody!
ReplyDeleteI just read some information in that page.It was about explorers.I found it very interesting!
My favorite one is: Richard Francis Burton.
Sir Richard Francis Burton was an English explorer, linguist, author & soldier. He traveled a lot,he began also an unsuccessful trip in search of the source of the White Nile. In 1872, Burton was appointed consul in Trieste. There he wrote and translated extensively. Sir Richard Francis Burton died on Oct. 20 1890.
I found it very interesting because i read about Burton's great job for finding the source of the White Nile.
:)
Hi everyone !!
ReplyDeleteI just read some information at the explorers' page. It was great. Everything was so short and specific, but still so full of curiosity. I think that enjoying what you learn, is actually what makes you learn more.
Among all those explorers I chose two of them as my favorites:
* Neil Alden Armstrong (1930- )was the first man to walk on the moon.He piloted NASA's Apollo 11 mission, which took off on July 16, 1969.He landed on the moon on July 20, 1969. Armstrong is also famous for his saying:"One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind."
* My second favorite explorer is Sir Edmund Percival Hillary (1919- ).
He is a mountain climber, Antarctic explorer and beekeeper from New Zealand.Hillary and the Nepalese mountaineer Tenzing Norgay, were the first people to reach the top of mount Everest on May 29, 1953(mount Everest is the highest mount in the world, about 8'848 m ).He has written many books about his adventures and I am pretty sure they're full of inspiration for people who really love his way of living.
Well, that's all for this post. I hope the next posts in this page will be as interesting as this was. ;) !!!
Hi everyone!!!
ReplyDeleteI just read these informations about the explorers and i found it really interesting.the information was really completed because you could understand in a few words how important these people were for the development of the society.
My favourite explorer was YURI GAGARIN .Colonel Yuri Alexeyevich Gagarin (March 9,1934 - March 27, 1968) was a Soviet cosmonaut and the first human in space. He explored one of the most important things : the space, and that's why i admire him. Another reason is that i love to be an astronaut. (an hopeless dream).
I enjoyed really much staying here in front of the PC and learnind more about these explorers. We should do more like that , because it is good for our knowledge.
.......(*_*) .......
hi everyone!!!
ReplyDeleteFirst of all thank you teacher stela for making our lessons more interesting and not that boring as some others. I found interesting reading about space explorers like NEIL Alden Armstrong (1930) the first person that walked on the moon. This finally means that humans can control or know almost everything around us!Upon his first step on the moon, Armstrong said, "One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind." Armstrong and Aldrin explored the Moon's surface for about 2 hours. He must have been so exited and proud about his work! great job! I really enjoyed all this! thanks again! :)
Hello everybody !!!!!
ReplyDeleteI see that lots of people have commented here and I really enjoyed reading all the comments. I absolutely agree that all the explorers have done a wonderful job and their life is full of action and adventure. Anyway I personally enjoyed most reading about Neil Armstrong and Christopher Columbus.
About the first one I must say that i love exploring space and learning about planets, so I really find it's journey in 1969 as the first man to lend on the moon the most exciting. Also love it's quotation :"One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind."
Christopher Columbus (1451 – 20 May 1506) was an explorer whose trips across the Atlantic Ocean led to general awareness of the American continents. He made a total of four trips to the Caribbean and South America during the years 1492-1504. He discovered America although he wasn't self conscious of that because he thought he had arrived in India.
It was really interesting reading this information.
Have fun all of you!!! ^_^
Hi!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm very glad about this new way of learning which is at the same time fun for everyone.
I found this site very educational and about the explorer's activity I can say that it is a great way to learn about important people of the past, thanks to whom we are now at this point of development.
I began to read about Neil Armstrong, and I must say, I was fascinated from his mission.I'm a fan of everything that has to do with trying to understand the mysteries of the universe.
Neil Armstrong was the first human being to land on the surface of the moon (on July 20, 1969) and for that he shall never be forgotten.
Hello everyone...
ReplyDeleteFirst of all I want to congratulate our teacher Stela for making our english learning more interesting and funny.
In my opinion all the information I read was full of curiosities... I agree with everything mentioned above... smth else i found interesting was the information about Vasco da Gama, who was a Portuguese explorer that discovered an ocean route from Portugal to the East.He sailed from Lisbon, Portugal, around Africa's Cape of Good Hope, to India (and back). At that time, many people thought that this was impossible to do because it was assumed that the Indian Ocean was not connected to any other seas.
I really enjoyed all this !! :))
Hey everyone!
ReplyDeleteThe first "wow + thank you" goes to teacher Stella that has done this great blog, by gathering the student's projects.
The second "wow + thank you" goes to the students who did these projects, and perhaps even to the famous explorers, who have given us the precious ideas and facts about our planet. Thank you !
I think the information given from the projects was quiet interesting, but i was wondering if we could add some more information about the way this famous forbitten facts from the church of the XV century, influenced in the literature, theater, art, and maybe even in the lifestyle of that time.
:)
hi everyone!!!! I'm new here but I think I'll learn a lot!!!! ;))) This way of learning and practising english rocks!!! It's really fun too!!
ReplyDeleteThank you about the information too!!
:))
hi everybody!I found this link very intresting and full of curiosity.
ReplyDeleteVictorian schools! ^_^
What was a Victorian classroom like?
There were maps and perhaps pictures on the wall. There would be a globe for geography lessons, and an abacus to help with sums. Children sat in rows and the teacher sat at a desk facing the class. At the start of the Victorian age, most teachers were men, but later many women trained as teachers.
Children wrote on slates with chalk. They wiped the slate clean, by spitting on it and rubbing with their coat sleeve or their finger! Slates could be used over and over. For writing on paper, children used a pen with a metal nib, dipped into an ink well.
What subjects did children learn?
Girls and boys learned together in primary schools, but were separated in secondary schools. Both boys and girls learned reading, writing, arithmetic, spelling and drill (PE).
Boys learned technology: woodwork, maths and technical drawing, to help with work in factories, workshops or the army when they grew up.
Girls had lessons in cooking and sewing, to prepare them for housework and motherhood.
Children were often taught by copying and repeating what the teacher told them. Lessons included teaching in right and wrong, and the Christian religion.
How were children punished?
Discipline in schools was often strict. Children were beaten for even minor wrongdoings, with a cane, on the hand or bottom. A teacher could also punish a child by making them stand in the corner wearing a 'dunce's cap'. Another, very boring, punishment was writing 'lines'. This meant writing out the same sentence (such as 'Schooldays are the happiest days of my life' 100 times or more. ^_^
hi everyone...
ReplyDeleteI wanted to post this in my wall but I have no followers so I'm writing here...
Last time in our english class we talked about shopping and how to spend mony in shopping..That's why I'm posting the story of a movie..It's a true story and I've read an article about it but I can't find it right now so I posted the movie story
Rebecca Bloomwood is a shopping addict who lives with her best friend Suze. She works as a journalist but dreams to join the fashion magazine Alette. On the way to an interview with Alette, she buys a green scarf. Her credit card is declined, so Rebecca goes to a hot dog stand and offers to buy all the hot dogs if the seller gives her back change in cash, saying the scarf is to be a gift for her sick aunt. The hot dog vendor refuses but a man offers her $20. When Rebecca arrives at the interview, she's told that the position has been filled. However, the receptionist tells her there is an open position with the magazine Successful Saving. Rebecca interviews with Luke Brandon, the editor of Successful Savings and the man who just gave her the $20. She hides her scarf outside his office, but Luke's assistant comes into the office and gives it back to her. Rebecca knows the game is up and leaves.
That evening, drunk, she and Suze write letters to Alette and Successful Saving, but she mails each to the wrong magazine. Luke likes the letter she meant to send to Alette and hires her. Rather than completing a work assignment for a new column, Rebecca goes to a clothing sale. While inspecting a coat, she realizes it is not 100% cashmere, which gives her an idea for the column, which is an instant success.
Rebecca returns home to renewed confrontations with debt collector Derek Smeath, so Suze makes her join Shopaholics Anonymous. The class leader, Miss Korch, forces Rebecca to donate all the clothes she just bought, including a bridesmaid's dress for Suze's wedding and a dress for a TV interview. Rebecca can't afford to buy back both and buys back the interview dress. During the interview, Rebecca is accused of not paying her debts and loses her job. Suze is angry when she finds out that Rebecca sold the bridesmaid dress.
Alette offers Rebecca a position at the magazine, but Rebecca declines. She sells most of her clothes to pay her debts. Meanwhile, Luke starts a new company, Brandon Communications.
Rebecca's clothes sale makes it possible for her to pay her debts. Rebecca attends Suze's wedding after reclaiming her bridesmaid dress. Suze forgives her. Rebecca and Luke meet, and Luke returns the green scarf after revealing that the person who bought it at an auction was acting as his agent. Rebecca becomes romantically involved with Luke and starts work at his new company.
P.S.All Rebecca said to the agent when she gave her the scarf was:"Please don't wear it with yellow"(actually it didn't look good with yellow)
The reason why she shops is that when she shops the world gets better and after that the world gets the same again!!! ^_*
